TORRE GOLF COURSE

During the winter of 2022 CJW Golf International commenced works at the new 18 hole golf and resort package ADT2, near the town of Comporta, Portugal, this will become the first golf course in the world designed by Sergio Garcia.

Working on a beautiful undulating sandy site, earthworks commenced to move the cut and fill, while also rough shaping the 18 holes, driving range and short game area, by summer of 2023 this phase was completed.

Phase two of the package in winter 2023 saw the commencement of, detailed shaping, irrigation and finishing works. Greens were built to a USGA specification, by mixing native sand with peat and spreading over a gravel carpet.

During the summer of 2024, the course was sprigged using Tahoma 31 bermuda grass and the greens seeded with Pure Select bent grass.

By September 2024, all construction and grassing works had been completed, at which point the grow-in period began, to include the development and maintenance of the golf course.

By May 2025, the grow-in works will be completed and full handover to the client for opening later in the year.

COMPORTA DUNAS

In 2021 CJW Golf International commenced works at the new 18 hole golf project Comporta Dunas, near the town of Comporta, Portugal, this is the first and only course designed by David McLay Kidd on continental Europe.

Working the most phenomenal undulating sandy site, surrounded by mature pines trees and native scrub all detailed shaping and grassing of the course was completed during 2021, this also included the driving range and practice facility.

In 2023 all final detailing of bunkering and selective scrub clearing were completed, which would become the final stage of editing, to delivery this eagerly anticipated project.

The course is unique for the region with its fescue playing surface from tee to green, with Pure Select on the putting surfaces.

The course opened in October 2023 and has already established itself as the must play venue, winning World Golf Awards for – Worlds Best Golf Course 2024, Europe’s Best Golf course 2024, Europe’s most Eco Friendly Golf course 2024.

MONIFIETH GOLF LINKS

Monifieth Golf Links is surrounded by some of the worlds best golf courses. We were approached by Viki Hart, course GM to help redefine 27 bunkers across the front and back 9 of the course, bringing a different feel. Keeping with a ”unique” brief, we have been putting a spin on the revetted bunkers.

Focusing on creating/reintroducing many micro-landforms, we use these shapes to dictate the bunker surrounds.

To help create the “unique” look with the revetted bunkers, we set out each bunker into a geometric shape. The geometric process along with using micro landforms, provides a unique appearance and almost Victorian in style.

Viki Hart comments:

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Conor Walsh and his team. The project has been seamless, and we couldn’t have asked for a smoother experience.

The goal of this project for Monifieth Links was to restore strategy to the Medal Course, which had become somewhat lost in recent years, and Conor and his team have done exactly that.

As the lead on this project, what I have appreciated most is the ease with which everything has come together. We would discuss each hole with Conor, sharing our vision and he brought it to life. In instances where we were uncertain about how our plan would work, Conor offered fresh, enthusiastic approaches that gave us greater confidence in the outcome.

The dedication and enthusiasm his team has shown—ensuring that Monifieth Links remains distinctive from its neighbours—has given us tremendous confidence in their work. They truly understand and value the unique course we offer.

It has been a genuine pleasure working alongside Conor and his team, and we look forward to collaborating with them again in the near future.”

ALOHA GOLF CLUB

In the summer of 2023, alongside Tim Lobb and his great team at Lobb + Partners and Surtec Golf Agronomy, CJW Golf International were involved in what was one of the biggest builds of the year at Spain’s jewel in the crown Aloha Golf Club.

Following a lot of planning, putting our team together, organising logistics and liasing with all the key members of the project team, we were able to put together detailed programs of work, how we were going to phase all the different greens, installation of irrigation and sodding with the key goal of having all 20 greens sodded in around 14 weeks.

Initially we set off with having 3 teams per green complex but as the project evolved we managed to adapt to new challenges, mitigate any potential issues with 14 guys on site and a lot of our specialised equipment (including 4 x 13 tonne excavators with rota tilt attachments!) really helped get the design Tim was aiming for.

All 20 greens were recreated to the highest standard, retaining a modern day Arana style and has delivered on members expectations with sustainable results.
